Sa isang eksena sa Destined To Be Yours (GMA Network).
Sa isang beach, tinarayan at nilait-lait ng ina ni Trish si Sinag. Resbak ni Sinag…
Sinag: (Mabilis na pagsasalita)
Miss babaeng bangus.
Pakutya) Alam niyo, bagay kayo. Isang tisoy, isang tisay. Pati biyenan, Tisay. Malamang pag nagkaanak kayo, transparent!
Sabay talikod nina Sinag at ng kaniyang tropa.
The title of this novel is Wish I Were Lazarus. It is based on John 11:1-44, which is the story of Lazarus.
Alden plays the role of a man who grew up with no name and with no one who ever loved him. As a child, he moved from one foster home to another, and called with different names. At 12, he decided to live in the streets. His friends in the streets called him Puti because of having a fair complexion. His enemies called him Eklab, for the same reason of having a fair skin.
One day, a young man who would foster kids in the streets told a story about Lazarus. He didn’t understand the true meaning of the story but he would always remember how Jesus raised Lazarus.
Puti turned 21, working as a vegetable pajinante. He lived alone. He fell in love once but the girl rejected him, called him mangmang and not worthy of her.
He was devastated. He thought, “No one could really love me. No one ever did.” The story of Lazarus reminded him. He cried a tear. As tears trickled his cheeks, “I wish I were Lazarus. Jesus loved him so much that he had to raise him from the dead.”

Taxation system in the Philippines is complex and complicated. Simplify it. Currently VAT is at 12% that exempts certain types of goods. A business is either VAT or non-VAT. Some taxpayers are exempted from it such as the senior citizens.
Just simplify VAT. Make all things ‘vatable’ so that whether you’re rich or poor, you make a contribution for the good of the economy. Regardless of how much you earn a year, VAT it. Whether you’re a government entity, private, charitable, educational, or NGO, VAT it. Whether it is a purchase or donation, VAT it. No more exemptions. Senior or non-senior, VAT it. You call this Equality Tax.
Simplify calculation. Fix it to 10%. In reporting, whatever the amount of gross sales, 10% of that should be the collected VAT.
Simplify reporting. Instead of monthly reporting, make it quarterly.
Simplify auditing. Whatever is the amount of your gross sales, 10% of that is VAT because all things are vatable. That 10% should be equal to the amount remitted in that quarter.
With a computerised system, gather all VAT payments and receipts per entity, then you’ll know who is not remitting correctly. Therefore, ask for a receipt all the time.
Being an accountant, I can understand why SSS cannot decide immediately about increasing the pension benefits of SSS pensioners. They have to study the impact of the increase to avoid SSS going bankrupt, if such is the word for a government agency. The next question is: Can SSS afford to increase the monthly pensions by ₱1000?
Let’s take an example using a simple mathematical calculation. If I had contributed ₱1200 a month for my social security for 10 years, that would be ₱144,000 total. If my money earned 12% p.a. for 10 years, I would have earned ₱172,800. If SSS would return my money monthly for 10 years, from a total of ₱316,800, divide it by 10, then divide it by 12, I should get ₱2640 in return. More or less, that gives me an idea of how much, at least, my monthly pension be. If I would receive higher than that, I would already appreciate it.
Of course, in the real world, this is not how the SSS pension is calculated. But at least, it would give you an idea, in case you invested your money at 12% per annum for 10 years.
The problem is: Where did the money go? How much SSS has earned from investments? How much share of profits from investments are they giving to its members? Are the officers and directors of SSS receiving ₱1,000,000 salary A MONTH?
Maybe, the directors should start receiving less than too much. Moreover, with SSS’ computerised system, maybe SSS should start retiring half of their employees.
